SunSite

Know what solar will really earn you, before anyone tries to sell it to you.

Enter your suburb, answer a couple of questions, and in about 60 seconds get a year-by-year picture of what solar (with or without a battery) would cost, save and pay back. No sales call. No phone number. No obligation.

Hypothesis

The problem

Most “solar calculators” are lead-capture forms in disguise: you type in your details, get a vague number, and then the phone starts ringing. Homeowners end up comparing quotes they can’t evaluate, against savings figures they can’t check.

SunSite simulates your home hour by hour across a full year, using satellite irradiance data (PVGIS) for your exact location, the open-source pvlib solar engine, a battery dispatch model and current Australian retail tariffs.

Procedure

How it works

  1. Quick mode

Household size, heating and EV flags, optional battery. Headline numbers in about a minute.

  2. Advanced

Exact roof, tilt, battery size, your real retailer plan and usage — down to smart-meter interval files.

  3. Refine

Build your load appliance by appliance: heat-pump hot water, air-con, EV charging, vehicle-to-grid.

  4. Optimise

Sweep panel and battery sizes to find the sweet spot between upfront cost and return.

Observations

Feature spotlight

Charts that explain, not just impress

Cumulative cashflow with a break-even marker, before-and-after bills, daily grid flows and CO₂ avoided — plus sankeys, heatmaps and duck curves for the curious. Export the full model (NPV, IRR, sensitivity) to a spreadsheet or a one-page PDF.

Your estimate, your link

No account needed. Every estimate lives at its own private URL that you can bookmark, share with a partner, or compare side by side with another scenario.

Request for Quote, on your terms

When you’re ready, send your estimate to accredited local installers. Every quote carries the same comparable fields, shown side by side next to the independent estimate you started with.

Findings

Why it’s different

Real modelling

Hour-by-hour simulation on satellite data and real tariffs — not a rule of thumb.

Privacy by design

Installers see only suburb, postcode and system size until they commit. We never sell your details.

Apples-to-apples quotes

Price, bill of materials, site notes and variations in the same fields, side by side.

Test subjects

Who it’s for

For

Homeowners

Understand the numbers before talking to a salesperson.

For

Engineers & enthusiasts

Feed in real meter data and interrogate every assumption.

For

Installers

Warm, well-qualified local leads from homeowners who already understand what they’re buying.

Roadmap

Lab Notes — where it’s heading

  • Utility-scale calculator for solar farms, wind farms and grid batteries, with LCOE, IRR and sensitivity analysis.
  • Installer and equipment directory built from public industry sources.
  • Case studies: published sizing studies for typical households in major Australian cities.

Honest numbers first, quotes second.
